Throughout his career, Dr. Donald M. Brown has dedicated himself to providing his patients with the highest standard of cosmetic surgery possible. Prior to entering private practice, Dr. Brown completed some of the most rigorous and prestigious educational and training programs in the world.
After graduating with first class honors from the University of British Columbia, Faculty of Science, Dr. Brown attended the University's Medical School for four years, graduating first in his class in the Otolaryngology/Head and Neck division of the Department of Surgery. Following an internship at the University of California Irvine Medical Center, he spent a year traveling and working in various hospitals around the world. With this invaluable experience to his credit, Dr. Brown moved to New York, where he began his residency training. He completed his Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery residency at the esteemed Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital and went on to become board certified in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery.
After completing his first residency, Dr. Brown resumed his travels, exploring and working in Borneo and the golden triangle region of Thailand, Burma, and Laos. Upon returning to the United States, he was elected to the prestigious Explorer's Club of New York. He also accepted a research position at Columbia University, where he focused on plastic surgery. He later completed his Plastic Surgery residency at the University's Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center.
Never able to resist the urge to travel for long, Dr. Brown moved to West Africa upon completing his Plastic Surgery residency, accepting the position of Visiting Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Liberia. While in Africa, he spent most of his time fixing cleft palates, cleft lips, and other congenital deformities. He then traveled around Europe, studying at various renowned plastic surgery hospitals, the most notable of which was the Carnesburne Plastic Surgical Hospital in Scotland. After he returned to the United States, he became Board Certified in plastic surgery.
Since entering into private practice, Dr. Brown has become an active member in several reputable professional organizations, including the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the American College of Surgeons, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the American Medical Society, the California Medical Society, the San Francisco Medical Society, and the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. He has been certified to practice by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, the American Board of Otolaryngology, the State of California Board of Medical Examiners, and the Medical Council of Canada. In addition, Dr. Brown's practice has been certified by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Plastic Surgery Facilities, Inc.
In addition to operating his cosmetic surgery practice, Dr. Brown also finds time to share his gifts with others through charitable work. Perhaps most notably, Dr. Brown has worked with Interplast, Inc., a non-profit organization for international reconstructive plastic surgery. Along with other experienced surgeons, he participated in a program to treat children and adults without proper resources in Piura, Peru.
Dr. Brown has also been published on several occasions, beginning in 1972 with his Study of the Auricular Vestibular Response, done in conjunction with Charles Lebo, M.D., at the Presbyterian Hospital at Pacific Medical Center. Between July 1976 and October 1978, Dr. Brown researched the embryology of the ear under the direction of George Crikelar, M.D., in the Department of Anatomy of Columbia University in New York. This research resulted in a paper entitled "The Epigenetic Control of Ear Cartilage Development," presented at the New York Academy of Medicine in February 1978.
Currently, Dr. Brown is a frequent guest lecturer on various San Francisco television and radio programs, as well as annual guest lecturer at the Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Seminar. He is also Chairman of the Laser Research and Development Fund at the Pacific Presbyterian Medical Center, a position he has held since 1980.
