Sun, wind, stress and the effects of gravity all affect the forehead skin. This loosening of skin causes the eyebrows to become lower and creates forehead wrinkles.
Forehead lift surgery, sometimes refered to as a "brow lift," raises the brow to a more natural position and helps soften if not completely eradicate forehead wrinkles. Deep creases between the eyebrows may also be addressed and greatly improved.
The brows are extremely important indicators of our moods, for instance when we become angry our brows furrow and the outside edges of the brows become elevated telegraphing to all around us that we are upset. This may be useful when angry however some individuals look like this all the time and this may not reflect how they truly feel. The same thing can be said about appearing tired or sad.
If you are wondering whether a forehead lift could improve your appearance stand in front of a mirror and close your eyes. Relax your forehead and allow it descend then slowly open your eyes and see what where your brow is. Place your hands on the top and side of your forehead and lift to see what improvement could be accomplished with a forehead lift.
There are a number of forehead lift surgery options available today depending on the individual's needs. The main difference between procedures is the placement of the incision(s). The incision may be placed across the top of the head (coronal lift), behind the hairline or in very few cases it may be placed in front of the hairline in order to lower the hairline. In some patients the best approach is using the endoscope, which allows for several smaller incisions to be made behind the hairline.
In men who have thinning hair it is also possible to improve the forehead using an incision in the temporal region. The surgical approach that is best for you will be discussed during the initial consultation. Forehead lifts are commonly performed in conjunction with other facial rejuvenation procedures such as an eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) or a face lift (rhytidectomy).
The forehead lift surgery is performed in Dr. Brown's accredited private operating suite in the heart of the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco either under general anesthesia or I.V. sedation. The procedure takes several hours with most patients going home the same day. If patients wish, they may stay overnight in Dr.Brown's suite with two nurses in attendance.
There will be some swelling immediately after forehead lift surgery however most of the swelling is gone after one week. Sutures are removed starting on the fifth day postop with the remaining sutures being removed within 7-10 days. By tightening and lifting the forehead skin and raising the upper eyelids, Dr. Brown can eliminate furrow lines in the forehead region and give you a more refreshed, youthful appearance.
